Where Everybody Is Somebody

Mary-Beth Friday

Speech-Language Pathologist, M.Ed., CCC-SLP

With over 20 years of experience as a nationally certified speech-language pathologist, Mary-Beth Friday opened Communication Pathways as a way to blend her two passions for speech-language therapy and autism support services. Over the years, Mary-Beth has provided speech-language services in both private practice and public school settings, including a children’s psychiatric hospital.  She also has worked as a Program Support Teacher in the Green Bay Schools which focused primarily on evaluating and supporting students within the autism spectrum and with emotional behavioral disabilities.

The connection between behavior and communication became clear to Mary-Beth after working with Joe, the first student with autism that she had the privilege to know. After witnessing Joe’s behavior improve as his communication skills increased and his sensory needs were met, Mary-Beth was hooked on learning more.  Since then, she has been trained in Social Thinking®, PECS, Social Stories, SCERTS, Rapid Prompting Method and Applied Behavioral Analysis. Mary-Beth has been running Social Thinking® groups for over eight years. She piloted groups for all ages, preschool to adult, in a private practice in Madison in 2011 and helped the Oregon School district launch Social Thinking® groups for their students in 2012.  Amazed at the changes she has seen in her clients, Mary-Beth continually seeks out advanced training. Last summer she was accepted for a three day training through Michelle Garcia Winner’s Social Thinking® Program.

Mary-Beth believes that the largest gains are made when people feel respected and safe, which cultivates an environment for clients to take risks and participate. The relationships she strives to develop with clients, families, doctors, teachers, therapists and administrators are an integral part of creating an effective team for client growth. Mary-Beth is grateful to have the opportunity to help her clients develop communication and social skills to lead their most fulfilling lives.
